It may be the start of my summer vacation, but that doesn’t mean the learning has stopped for me! I’ve entered Whole Brain Teaching College! In my pursuit of becoming a fully certified Whole Brain Teacher, I’ve been busy researching any and all sources of information about this remarkable teaching system. The more I learn, the more excited I am to begin. In fact, as much as I absolutely LOVE my job as a teacher, I’ve come to realize that it’s been a while since I’ve felt this much enthusiasm about something new to education.
One of the wonderful aspects of being a teacher in the 21st Century is the ease with which knowledge can be accessed and shared so readily with others. That’s certainly true of my Whole Brain Teaching journey. I also think it’s one of the reasons why WBT has been spreading so rapidly, not just in America but also around the world. Aside from the amazing results and powerful student engagement (and don’t forget the pure fun!), technology allows us to quickly and rather inexpensively learn online.
Whole Brain Teaching Webcasts
One super-easy way to learn more about WBT is to join their live webcasts, which happen most Monday evenings. Can’t make it? No problem! They are all archived and 100% free to watch at any time. It doesn’t get any easier than that. I’ve bookmarked many of them on my Draggo site. Mostly because I wanted them categorized by topic, which Draggo allows you to do with your bookmarks. Currently, I’m watching the videos I’ve labeled as “Getting Started.”
Whole Brain Teaching Wisdom
If this sounds like something that might interest you, then you’d better get started. At last count, there were over 60 videos and most of them are about an hour long. An hour of some of the best professional development I’ve ever received…all in the comfort of my own home, on my own schedule. I watch each one and pause frequently to write down some delicious piece of Whole Brain Teaching wisdom.
Ready for the Common Core
I just finished five hours of professional development at my district today focusing on using PLC’s to prepare our students for the new Common Core State Standards. It is no exaggeration to say that after every 45-minute presentation, I literally thought, “Whole Brain Teaching has that covered with _____________.” Then I filled in the blank with some aspect of the system.
Facing the Future with Confidence
So much still seems so uncertain about the Common Core and the new standardized tests that will soon follow. However, I am increasingly confident that I will have the instructional tools to make sure my students are ready to succeed thanks to Whole Brain Teaching. Check out their videos at their website or on YouTube and see what I mean for yourself.
